1. The definition of CO2 incubator
CO2 incubator is widely used in the research and production of medicine, immunology, oncology, genetics, microbiology, agricultural science, and pharmacology, and has become one of the most commonly used conventional instruments in laboratories in the above-mentioned fields. The CO2 incubator is a kind of device for in vitro incubation of cells/tissues by simulating the growth environment of a similar cell/tissue in the incubator chamber, such as constant pH (pH:7.2-7.4), stable temperature (37°C), and high relative humidity (90%) , stable CO2 level (5%).
2. Classification of CO2 incubator
According to the heating system of the CO2 incubator, the CO2 incubator can be divided into CO2 incubator (water jacket) and CO2 incubator (air jacket). Water-jacketed and air-jacketed CO2 incubators can be distinguished according to the presence or absence of water inlets and drains. Both heating systems are accurate and reliable, but they have their own advantages and disadvantages.
The temperature of the CO2 (water jacket) incubator is maintained by an independent water jacket surrounding the inner box. The water in the water jacket is heated by an electric heating wire, and the temperature change is detected by the temperature sensor in the box, so that keep the temperature in the box constant at the set temperature. Due to the high specific heat capacity of water, the advantage of the water jacket type is to help uniform heat dissipation and avoid the formation of cold areas, and it can better slow down the temperature drop in the incubator after the power is cut off. Because the water jacket is surrounded by water, the temperature uniformity is very good.
The heating of the CO2 incubator (air jacket) is to directly heat the inner box through the heaters all over the air jacket layer of the box. The heat insulation system and surface heat dissipation elements are used to balance the temperature in the incubator. Compared with the water jacket, the air jacket has the characteristics of faster heating and faster temperature recovery than the water jacket incubator, which is particularly conducive to short-term incubation and incubation that requires frequent opening and closing of the door. The temperature inside the box is generally set at about 37°C. In addition, the air jacket design is simpler than the water jacket, and there is no need to add water, emptying and cleaning.
